Jazz am Rhein 2017 - August 18 through 20 (International Jazz Festival @ Ludwigshafen am Rhein - Germany)

If you have the chance, by all means do not miss the opportunity to see this special event, this year marking the piano master - Richie Beirach's 70th birthday celebration (his having turned 70 last May).

It promises to be an absolutely magical event, counting on the awe-inspiring talent of the master himself and those close to him.
Joining him on stage shall be Jazz legend - David Leibman (old freind and spellbinding accomplice)

Also performing shall be The New Richie Beirach Trio that have just released the breathtaking álbum ''Gaia''.

(below is a short demo of that recording)

Recorded live, below is the Trio with one of the pieces from the álbum and in this case they were joined by Tobias Frohnhöfer who shall also be in attendance (as well as a number of other talented musicians)

For those who shall have the good fortune to catch this happy chain of concerts, eventhough you shan't be in want of anything to add to the enchantment of each date - may the Perseids that are currently still showering our spinning blue ship as is sails around the universe, tagging along with all it's sister ships in our mothership's Solar Fleet, bring extra blessings each day and night.

apenas vos deixo a ligação

A antiga arte...

quer pelas ideologias habituais neles contidos)

Ciclicamente, um ou outro salta com maior força que o outro para a ribalta - ambos sempre presentes como dinâmica social, atingindo os seus auges e passando por períodos de desgaste de forma intercalada, ao longo dos tempos (não sei se apenas como reacções um ao outro), e que se têm reflectido como - e com registos, nem que seja (e por exemplo) nas várias Artes;

(hmmmmmmmm...)

Noam Chomsky (a recent interview)

I know I've placed Mr. Chomsky a couple of times before, but, I feel these recent words of his to convey far better than I ever could certain things that have been on many of our minds as of late (whether ''mainstream'' media likes it or not).
I shall, therefore, just leave us with the following interview. Some of the issues are of course more pertinent to those who live in the US, nevertheless, so much of what he says merits reflection on the part of so many (any one of us) outside said country, as well, in my opinion.

By the way, the fact that so much of our mainstream media seems to be so hysterically hyped as it reacts to present-day Venezuela, is starting to make me think that they must be doing something right (in Venezuela, that is.. and regardless or despite of what I may think of their current leader, as a person, for it is a Venezuelan affair). Why is it that any of the Latin American countries not being under NATO's feet (as a mat), or others for that matter - seems to get their (the media's) panties tied up in a bunch like this, I wonder?

I'm sure it has nothing to do with their having or wishing to have control over their own natural resources (hmmmm..., East Timor comes to mind - with those strange «coup d'etat» events back in 2006 or 2008, among the other usual examples when one thinks on this matter, no? ) .

(yes, a person doesn't even need to stick to the middle east to see certain things, it seems.. How sad this is, when we think of how supposedly all of us are lead to believe we should be happy with all those hopes, and promises, to finally become free from so much dependence on certain types of finite ''energy sources'', but that's probably beside the point, hmmmmmm...)

(oh yes, how I love to be brainwashed by all this easy-made media hype, where one is always told how ''Mr Syria'' is so terrible and ''Mr Saudi Arabia'' is so cute and fluffy, for instance, or any of the BRICKs (or conveniently neighbouring countries) - do this or that, or how good it is for this or that place to be full of investment in solar energy and yet... )

...and yes, I'm wondering also as to - what ever happened to ''freedom of the Press''? - among other things, but alas, that appears to be old news...

And just to ''play fair'' I won't leave out the continuous Athabaskan saga - in Canada, or Norway's  wish to drill the heck out of the Arctic.. Did I leave out POrtugal?
(as Poirot would say ''Please to forgive me'')
LINK
(I hope that this nonsense doesn't get us ''bombed to smithereens, among other things that is)
But our newscasts seem to only be interested if Ronaldo has burped his child, or weaned a calf, or anything like that. It's either that or turn themselves into some kind of gory game show where a TV host puts up placards to pin the names on who was or was not in fact burnt to a crisp in this or that fire... Yes, they can be so tasteful, can't they?)

I might not seem at this precise moment to be in a good mood,  but do not get me wrong, sometimes just by simply losing track of time on a Saturday , even when decompression makes oneself blunder a bit - can make a two month holiday at a Jamaican Spa or in Monet's gardens (or a mix of both) seem small by comparison. So, I hope that the sun and the evening stars shine bright and sweetly for you, no matter  how stormy or  iffy the horizon may seem, as they did for me yesterday
(wait, we're in August already. It was the day before... :),
I'm still under that Saturday spell)

Chatinhos, irra (apre, arre, ...)

Jeanne Moreau

(the image below comes from a FB page ► (MILES DAVIS FOREVER)

I don't even know how long ago it was that I first saw this film, but, it was due to of one of my favourite soundtracks (l'ascenseur pour l'échafaud) that I first encountered one of the many cinematic treasures in  French Cinema, many of which with

the gifted actress - Jeanne Moreau..
(born: Paris, 23 January 1928)

It is sad to see her leave us, at any age.

Joaquim Pedro

Muitos parabéns, a ambos.

Isabel Soveral - presentation of ''Paradeisol'' (May 13, 6pm, Oporto PT)

It has been a while since I've been able to get online.  Nevertheless, having now a brief internet moment - without haste, it is my great pleasure to announce the presentation of Isabel Soveral's work
"Paradeisoi" .

Thankfully I was informed of the event by a friend, by the following announcement - LINK

(It is a work that had been commissioned by the Gulbenkian Foundation, and had the foundation's orchestra perform its premiere back in 2007)

If you have the chance, by all means do not miss this.

It shall be performed the day after tomorrow in Oporto (Portugal), at the ''Casa da Musica'' on May 13th, at 6:00 pm (18:00h).

For a little more information regarding Isabel Soveral I leave a link from where I have retrieved the above image  - Here

George Mraz - (hoping for his recovery)

We all know how precious the man's talent is, I don't really know what more to say.
More than one of my absolute top bassists, he is one of my all time favourite musicians.
(And, he is so well loved by colleagues, friends & family, so special..)

LINK - (please donate, or share this link)

I won't even go into the anguish and sorrow one has, when thinking of how the country where he lives doesn't seem to respect its citizens in the most basic of needs.

How many countries are astronomically ahead in terms of safeguarding access to proper health care for it's people?
I wish he could have multiple countries as his home, so he (or others like him) wouldn't have to deal with such a predicament.
As time is definitely of the essence, I shall say no more, and hope he gets better.

I hope he gets (and in time) the funds to regain his health, I really do.

God bless you Mr. Mraz.

I'm a selfish person, although he's already given so much, I hope he gives more of his precious talent to bask my ears into

The January Post

♥ Streep (Why? - because of the Art that lives within her, her Humanity, her obvious talent, and for every single word also - that she says here, with her faltering voice. Love her. It's impossible not to)

- ♥ Bowie (Why? - well, he's Bowie, I don't really feel a need to give any other particular reason...)

and now - ♥ ♥ ♥ a beautiful friend whom I cherish,
Christian.
(Why? Well, besides the friendship, the talent, the extraordinary heart, and will, it's similar to the two above, for his Humanity.      Love him, and he knows it)

- So, I'll repeat two videos with him playing (two samples) - One where we can see another, so fabulously playing along side his beloved friend - (my goodness, speaking of talent, and art and so forth..) Richie Beirach. It's so pleasing (among other things) to see this quartet perform.
The other is a ''trio'', one I love to hear - so very much.

(well, I do of course have the Record, but I'll leave the demo of it, firstly)

(ok ok ok - I said I'd place two, but I'm incorrigible, so here's a third)

These five things I place above, other than exemplifying what I personally wish to dedicate this year on our tiny blue dot (as Sagan used to call it): Friendship, Love, Talent, Art, Humanity, and so much more than what I say (for not everything I know how to say, in words), they show great spirit - the kind that not only shine's through one's own talent, but even more when said talents are made stronger and even larger - through the bond of friendship shared therein.

As the country where I was born prepares its farewell to one of it's towering figures of the XX'th century, an unstoppable Human Right's lawyer - one that up to his age of 50 - amidst the known oppression of the prior regime, defending even others who were (attorneys for Human Rights), and great minds such as Salgado Zenha (to mention one, but there were more such lawyers and activists defended, and those from other fields as well), whom after 74 set the ground work for our latest ''democratic'' rule (the one occurring in the xx century still, born through the hands of other great minds and men as well - Alvaro Cunhal, instantly coming to mind, and of course others such as Sá Carneiro, not to mention who actually changed the regime in 1974 (among others), - in the nation's armed forces, the only ones who actually could ... but I shall not linger on the subject at this time) - and as a statesman, internationally, his working alongside other European heads of state, leaving at the time he had done so his ''footprint'' (so to speak)  upon the EU during the timespan of his influence -
(I was saying)
- as the country prepares its farewell, I write this post.

Yes, the arts make us more Human, mirror us, are food for the soul (et cetera, yes, and indeed they are). The sciences take us further on our journey (within our Humanity - as a collective), and are somewhat similar (also so important) for such things (especially as the tool that it is, and depending on how and by whom it's wielded), just as contemplation / meditation and so forth, through our spirituality (be it though any ''organized'' religion or not) does, as well.

So now I leave three or four links - that concern the activity that seems to epitomize (mirror, make us more Human (in the noble sense of the word, as always when I use it), and yes - are also ''food for the soul'' (for so many reasons), and never any less than the afore mentioned ones (of the previous paragraph).

OOoops, I was searching for a LINK, in one of two blogs (pertaining to this one, that is) and since Gandhi is rather stretched ou in - and throughout either, I'll just simplify with an image I'd made some years back on the occasion of his birthday and place it here (also) as a symbol of the Civil Rights (Human Rights) Lawyer.

Mario Soares (President Mario Soares ► December 7th, 1924 - January 7th, 2017)

The nation now mourning, as one of the towering figures, from mid xx century and on in the country, goes..

(condolences, to whomsoever, be it family, friends, and countrymen that feel for his loss)

At times like these, there is no sense in attacking whom is no longer with us, and especially a cowardice for anyone to imagine or attempt to do so - not only to those whom feel more directly his passing.  It would be barbaric, to say the least, and I will not have it..   For this reason I hereby state the following.
This blog will not tolerate, by any means, any comment to this post that will diminish the man.

I may understand that there might be some people (there always are, especially with icons such as he) regardless my agreeing or not, any criticism - concerning anything of the ''political'' Mario Soares, and I stand up for freedom of speech, but, I will not tolerate the afore mentioned type of cowardice or ''barbarie'', on this post. through any comment that may come.

I've never vented any things I may have not agreed to, concerning decisions (obviously not easy ones), as he led the country (when he was in office), but when I ever did (not written, but spoken, among friends, though not with many I admit), concerning some things, it was always ''political'', and never the man.
Concerning his activity as a lawyer, especially prior to the fall of the previous regime, he's always commanded my utmost respect.
I cannot ever forget that it was he that defended, even at his own peril, others of great stature: among some of which were Salgado Zenha, the family of the assassinated candidate Umberto Delgado, Alvaro Cunhal, and many more.
On the other side of his ''political'' sphere, he was respected by, and maintained friendship with the likes of people such as Adriano Moreira
(a Lawyer himself, and also imprisoned by the regime to which he had been a minister of.
Many people, such as the two, met by having shared cells in the time of the dictatorship, and became friends for life).
We know all too well how easy it is to criticize, but, we also know how easily one forgets the full picture.

He was not only of significance nationally, but as is known, on the international stage.

My respects, and silence.
